TO SURVIVE in a sunset business like print media, Amarin Printing and Publishing will offer readers the choice of only top-ranked titles.

“All of our magazines must be No 1 in their category to make sure that both readers and advertisers still stay with us,” Rarin Utakapan Punjarungroj, chief executive officer, said yesterday.

The leading publisher is focusing more on content development and distribution across platforms, particularly online and on-ground activities.

The company is developing content from its top-ranked magazines to be up and ready for audiences across media platforms, ranging from conventional formats, on-ground events and television programmes to digital media outlets like websites and Facebook pages.

“We already have a strong readership base from our top-rated magazines.

Other platforms will help us engage with more untapped audiences and pave the way for advertisers to communicate with them,” he said.

Amarin hopes to see revenue from digital expansion multiply fivefold to more than Bt100 million this year.

The most popular magazines – Lamonade, Room, Baan Lae Suan, Health and Cuisine, and My Room – have been selected to offer special content or related activities such as e-commerce.

Although advertising in magazines was continuing to decline, the company still believes that printed publications play a key role among local readers. To keep them interested, Amarin will further penetrate new frontiers like digital media and free-TV broadcasting and bring brands to meet target audiences.

Amarin TV, a high-definition digital terrestrial TV channel, continues to improve its viewership rating. It ranks 13th out of the 25 digital TV stations. By year-end, it hopes to advance into the top 10.

“We continue to develop our key content such as news, variety and home-related shows. This year, another highlight will be lifestyle TV programmes,” Rarin said.

The company is aiming for 10-per-cent growth in revenue this year by expanding digital media, selling pocketbooks and organising on-ground activities and fairs.
