KRIENGSAK ‘VICTOR’ Silakong, director of the World Film Festival of Bangkok, has been invited to join a distinguished group of film experts at China Daily’s Asia Leadership Roundtable on “Opportunities from Globalisation of Chinese Film Industry” next Wednesday at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre.
China’s film industry grossed more than 40 billion yuan last year, with more than 60 per cent coming from domestic production for the first time. The 2016 Chinese New Year period saw a record increase in box-office takings to 287 million yuan (Bt1.55 billion).
China’s box-office takings are expected to reach 100 billion yuan in 2020, surpassing North America to become the world’s largest film market.
The rapid globalisation of China’s film industry has encouraged several strategic moves and saw co-investments taking place with Hollywood, Britain, India, Japan and South Korea on content, intellectual property, talent, capital, technology and distribution channels.
