MICE campaign launched to mark major royal events

THE THAILAND Convention and Exhibition Bureau has launched a new joint campaign in which it is offering financial subsidies of up to Bt210,000 per group for domestic meetings.

The TCEB has formed a partnership with the Pid Thong Lang Phra Foundation (the Royal Initiative Discovery), the Association of Domestic Travel (ADT) and the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA) to launch “D-MICE: Meeting in Thailand, Visiting the Royal Initiative Projects”.

It is a special campaign in celebration of three significant royal occasions – the 70th anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol’s accession to the throne, the 84th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, and the 88th birthday of the King.

The campaign runs from now until the end of September.

The bureau expects the domestic MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition) market to grow by 5 per cent to 24 million delegates for the 2016 fiscal year, generating Bt47 billion in revenue.

Through the cooperation with the ADT and TICA, joint marketing campaigns have been established along with support travel budgets for companies seeking a presence at domestic conventions. Firms will be offered a Bt20,000 travel allowance for a group of 50 and up to Bt210,000 for a group of more than 350.

Phuriwat Limtavonrus, ADT vice president, said the association had provided 20 tour programmes for companies to hold meetings and incentives at participating royal-initiative projects.

Phuriwat said the ADT expected between 8,000 and 15,000 tourists and MICE travellers would join the campaign, generating between Bt70 million and Bt100 million in revenue.
