ELECTRIC CARS
PTT today signed a memorandum of understanding with six automakers, showing its commitment to open charging stations for electric cars.
The signatories are BMW (Thailand), Mercedes-Benz (Thailand), Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand), Nissan Motor (Thailand), Porsche (Thailand) and Volvo Car (Thailand).
Eenrgy Minister Gen Anantaporn Kanjanarat, who presided over the signing ceremony, said that the MoU was line with Thailand’s plan to increase the number of electric vehicles to 1.2 million within 2036, to reduce energy consumption by 30 per cent compared to the 2010 level. The Thai government earlier unveiled tax incentives for electric car manufacturing and imports.
PTT President Tevin Vongvanich said the company kicked off research and development on electric cars in 2012 and has so far opened four standard EV stations. Two more will be opened within this year and the total number will be raised to 20 within 2017.
Under this MoU, the parties agree to test the services at PTT EV stations.
