Alipay, the world’s leading online and mobile payment platform has struck a partnership with Paysbuy, a leading online payment provider in Thailand with over 15,000 online merchants, to expand mobile payment services to allow Chinese tourists visiting Tha
Under the “Paysbuy Alipay Online-to-Offline (Alipay O2O)” service, merchants and businesses can accept online payments for the purchases of goods and services by Chinese customers in yuan. Over 10 million Chinese tourists are expected to travel to Thailand in 2016.
Paysbuy is a subsidiary of Total Access Communication (Dtac).
“We have seen a significantly growing number of Chinese tourists, with about 8 million tourists visiting Thailand last year. Chinese tourists have strong spending power and spend an average of Bt6,000 per person on goods and services, and since most of Chinese people use Alipay on a daily basis, this is a great opportunity for Alipay to expand its business in Thailand by partnering with Paysbuy to create a cashless society,” said Panthep Nilasinthop, senior vice president – Head of Financial Services & Innovation Division.
Panda Jia, senior director of Alipay International, Ant Financial Services Group, said that Alipay has over 450 million active users. Currently over 70,000 overseas retailers, including restaurants, shopping malls, duty-free shops and convenient stores, support Alipay. Among then, over 10,000 stores are in Thailand.
“Alipay is a payment platform that connects merchants and Chinese customers. We have a full confidence in Paysbuy that we have integrated their merchant payment gateway into Alipay to allow Chinese tourists who have active Alipay accounts to pay for goods and services via Alipay mobile application – as conveniently here as in China,” said Jia.
The service is now available at 4 branches of King Power.
