A BUSINESS-MATCHING activity next week for rice and tapioca traders is expected to generate sales of more than Bt63 billion, the Commerce Ministry said.
Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said international buyers would be attending the event, which targets Bt28 billion in rice sales and Bt35 billion from tapioca sales.
The event will be held from Monday to Wednesday at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao. About 300 traders from 41 countries and 100 local traders of rice, tapioca and their by-products will join.
Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of the International Trade Promotion Department, said companies confirming their attendance included CEC International Holdings, a merchandising firm from Hong Kong, which intends to buy 10,000 tonnes from Siam Diamond Export Rice Co.
Another Hong Kong company, Kui Fat Yuen Ltd, will order 100 tonnes of Gaba rice from Bangsue Chia Meng Rice. Dah Chong Hong Ltd, the second-largest importer of Hom Mali rice in Hong Kong, will order 600 tonnes of Riceberry and vermicelli from Riceland Foods, and Kwong Sun Hong Ltd, another leading importer of Hom Mali rice in Hong Kong, will order 400 tonnes of Riceberry from Thai Standard Rice.Fulaichun Group, an ethanol producer, will order 800,000 of tapioca chips worth US$156 million (Bt5.47 billion) from PR Intertrade.
