DTAC IN SPECTRUM TALKS

Total Access Communication Plc (DTAC) is in discussions with the telecommunications regulator on issues involving a possible auction of a licence for the 900 MHz spectrum, chief executive Lars Norling said.

“While DTAC awaits more clarity on the remedy plan from NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission), DTAC is in active discussions with NBTC on a potential lower band (900 MHz) auction and hopes that this auction is planned with due consideration of DTAC’s current lower band concession network (850 MHz) and the current market conditions,” Norling said.

“It is right of DTAC customers to continue using the mobile services after the end of a concession on 1800 MHz and 850 MHz spectra as a remedial measure until the NBTC can successfully reassign those spectrum to new licensees.”

The NBTC failed to receive any bid applications on June 15 for an auction of licences on the 1800MHz spectrum. Now, the NBTC will accept bid applications next month.

The NBTC telecom subcommittee also resolved that the watchdog intends to auction a licence on a 900MHz band totalling 5MHz on August 10.

Norling said the customers of other concessionaires had been granted protective arrangements from 2013-15 by the NBTC.
