Xpander SUVs due here from Indonesia
Mitsubishi will start importing the Xpander SUV from Indonesia to Thailand in the coming months, the company has announced.
The Xpander, powered by a 1.5-litre gasoline engine, is built at Mitsubishi’s new assembly plant in Bekasi, and the first export market is the Philippines, followed by Thailand, Vietnam and other international markets later this year.
A total of 30,000 units are expected to be exported during the first year. Mitsubishi said this is the first time that the company is carrying out “mass-scale” export from Indonesia.
“The export of the Xpander is an important milestone in our ongoing business plan, and adds further to our strong foundation in ASEAN, which are the key drivers of our growth in the region,” said Osamu Masuko, chief executive of Mitsubishi Motors Co.
Since it was launched in August last year, the Xpander has attracted over 66,000 orders, and it was also the best-selling model in Indonesia in March this year.
The Bekasi plant has a production capacity of 160,000 vehicles per year, which would be raised to 170,000 units per year in July.
