New Year spending to rise 2.5 per cent this year: survey

A Thai Chamber of Commerce survey estimates spending over the New Year will reach Bt135.279 billion, up 2.5 per cent from last year.

Up to Bt97.076 billion of a total Bt135.279 billion will be spent for travel, with the remaining Bt38.203 billion devoted to shopping, partying and making merit.

Up to 90.5 per cent of travel will be domestic with an average Bt14,448 per person spent, with the remaining 9.5 per cent in overseas travel reaching Bt61,939 per person.

The top three gift will be cash, gift baskets and healthy beverages.

The survey of 1,210 people nationwide ran from December 11 to 21.
