Savate Sresthaporn became the first Thai skeet and trap shooter in the history to qualify for the Olympics after he won the silver medal in ISSF World Cup Shotgun Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

Savate and 2016 Olympic gold medallist Josip Glasnovic of Croatia were tied after each fired 47 targets in the men’s trap final before the Croatian shot nine targets to eight by the Thai in the shoot-off.

Both Savate and Glasnovic won Olympic quota berths into the 2020 Tokyo Games. Savate also became the first Thai male skeet and trap shooter to produce a World Cup medal.

The only Thai skeet and trap shooter who won the World Cup gold medal is Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit following her wins (women’s skeet) in the 2016 San Marino and Rio de Janeiro meets.
