The 25-year-old Khemmatat timed 36.53 minutes to claim the 10km men’s overall title while 37-year-old Kalaya crossed the finish line in 47.10 minutes to dominate the women’s title.

The Olympic Day Thailand is the annual running event attended by more than 10,000 participants every year. Among them were  former Olympics stars joining the activity this year were former Olympic champions Somluck Khamsing, the country’s first athlete to claim an Olympiad boxing gold medal from Atlanta Games in 1996, Paweea Thongsuk, weightlifting gold medallist from the 2004 Games in Greece, Somjit Jongjohor, boxing gold medalist in the 2008 Games and Yaowapa Booripolchai, taekwondo bronze medallist from tne 2004 Games.

The first 100 men and 100 women to cross the finish line received Finisher shirts while all participants were given souvenir medals and certificates from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

However, for the first times, there was a lucky draw for two return tickets (each for two persons) plus accommodation and entry tickets to attend the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year. Besides, over 20 prizes worth up to Bt500,000 sponsored by Bridgestone were given away.

Olympic Committee of Thailand president Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said: “Judging from the number of participants this year, it proves that people pay more attention to running  and exercise which leads to good health and longevity of life.”
