The buying price of a gold bar was Bt23,650 per baht weight and selling price Bt23,750. Buying price of gold ornaments was Bt23,225.12 per baht weight and selling price Bt24,250.

The prices dropped from Thursday’s close (March 12) when buying price of gold bar was Bt24,400 and selling price Bt24,500. The buying price of gold ornaments was Bt23,967.96 and selling price Bt25,000.

Gold contracts in COMEX futures to be delivered in April fell by US$52 to $1,590.30 per ounce on Thursday’s close due to uncertainty about the global economic impact from the Covid-19 outbreak after US President Donald Trump suspended travel from Europe.

Trump announced that the US will suspend travel from Europe, except the United Kingdom, for 30 days, to take effect from midnight Friday local time. Trump also blamed the European Union for not suspending travel from China at the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The World Health Organisation has declared Covid-19 a global pandemic after it became widespread throughout many regions.

An analyst said that Trump’s coronavirus travel restrictions on Europe had caused uncertainty in the markets, stating that investors would see greater economic impact from the Covid-19 outbreak.
