FOUR Mexican tourists were killed and six seriously injured after the van their 10-member group had chartered to drive across Thailand crashed into a roadside tree in Phichit’s Pho Prathap Chang district on Thursday night.
Police investigators found that the group rented the van in Bangkok to visit Sukhothai province before crashing on the outbound lane of Highway No 117 (Nakhon Sawan-Phitsanulok) at around 9pm.
After rescue workers cut the victims free from the vehicle, they reportedly found that the speedometer was stuck on 101 kilometres per hour.
Four of the deceased were identified as Paula Irene Cornish, 70, Maria Elvira Gutierrz, 51, and Sergio Enrique, 82, and Martin Schivy Cornish, 49. – The Nation
