The number of dengue fever cases in Bangkok has reached 2,227 cases in the past two months and the Thon Buri side of Chao Phraya River was the worst-hit area as its low-lying location was a prime mosquito breeding area, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) disclosed yesterday.
BMA deputy permanent secretary, Wantanee Wattana said that, from January to mid-February, there were 2,227 dengue fever patients in Bangkok, most aged 20-24. The top three areas with the highest prevalence of dengue were: Thon Buri’s Phasi Charoen district with 111 cases, Bangkok Noi district 78 cases and Bangkok Yai district with 43 cases, she said. The BMA would soon launch a “big cleaning” operation against dengue fever in Thon Buri including elimination of mosquito breeding grounds in communities.
Wantanee also said the BMA was developing a dengue fever timely notification application, that will alert people and authorities so the disease can be controlled more efficiently.
