A Bangkok taxi driver surrendered to police yesterday morning a few hours after the hit-and-run death of a good samaritan who was helping fix another motorist’s car in the rain on the Rajapruek intersection overpass in Bangkok’s Thon Buri district.
Sucheep Polpitak, 51,told police he was speeding at the time of the incident and did not see the car that had broken down on the roadside around 3am.
He claimed he fled the scene for fear of being assaulted by bystanders who had gathered at the scene.
Kiattisak Surin, 28, was killed and the owner of the car, Pannicha Khanpachai, 35, sustained a broken leg.
Sucheep has been charged with reckless driving causing death and injury.
