PHITSANULOK POLICE chief Pol Maj-General Adisak Noiprasert yesterday ordered the transfer of three police to inactive posts, so an investigation into their alleged assault on five university students can go ahead. The police are also accused of threatening the students by firing at their car.
The students filed a police complaint against the officers on Wednesday.
In response, Adisak met with Sakorn Soisangwan, president of the Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University, to promise that justice would be ensured for both sides. The police chief also called on other university students to not pressure the police or do anything that might cause problems.
Adisak said investigators would focus on the alleged accident when the students’ car brushed a vehicle with the accused police in it, the subsequent assault, as well as disciplinary action against the police.
The police in question are Pol Captain Wutthipat Bua-urai, Pol Lieutenant Thanakan Chaipipat and Pol Sergeant Subin Nuchkham.
Sakorn said that Adisak also called on other students to refrain from causing further trouble. The students, accompanied by a university vice president, testified at Muang Phitsanulok Police Station in the afternoon, while forensic police inspected the students’ car, which was allegedly shot at by the suspects.
Student Chaithawat Thamrongsakkhun said he and his friends now keep looking over their shoulders because they feel insecure about their safety. He said an unidentified person contacted a relative of his on social media telling her to talk him into not publishing the video clip of the incident. However, he said he would pursue the case until justice is served.
