One suspect has been detained in relation to the Tuesday bomb and gun attack that killed three police officers and wounded six others in Narathiwat’s Rangae district. A combined security team led by the 45th Ranger Regiment deputy commander Colonel Chutidech Chawanit nabbed the suspect from a house in tambon Bo Ngo and took him to Pattani’s Ingkhayuth Borihan Military Camp.
Meanwhile, Narathiwat police deputy chief Pol Colonel Chakpong Thaengthong and senior officers attended the burial of Pol Lance Corporal Rachakrit Awae, who was one of the three slain officers, in Sungai Kolok district.
Separately, Chaichana Krittiyanart, chief of Yala’s Yaha district, yesterday dismissed rumours that some 200 families were moving out of Ban Sapong in tambon Patae out of fear after five villagers were killed in four previous attacks.
The attack in question were the January 22 shooting resulting in two deaths, February 19 shooting in which one villager was killed, the March 2 shooting in which another local resident was killed and the March 3 shooting that claimed another local’s life.
Chaichana said that those who had moved were only returning to their home in Pattani’s Ma-Yor district as rubber trees were now shedding leaves and could not be tapped.
