TROPICAL STORM
Storms over the first few days of this month damaged about 2,000 homes in 17 provinces, but also brought much needed rain.
Water levels at several dams rose while air humidity increased, creating better conditions for rainmaking operations, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Chatchai Phromlert said yesterday.
From March 31 to April 4, summer storms helped to add at least 130 million cubic metres of water stored at various dams and reservoirs while also increasing air humidity, Chatchai said. He added that authorities would quickly extend aid to residents whose homes were damaged.
Chatchai said none of the 234 tap-water stations nationwide were forced to completely suspend tap-water supplies, although some stations had to limit distribution to specific periods or otherwise reduce supply. He said Bangkok’s water-supply system was still running smoothly although there was a problem posed by saltwater intrusion.
