Surat Thani Governor Wongsiri Phromchana yesterday instructed Provincial Harbour Office head Prawet Supachai to have all 200 boats operating on the Ratchaprapa dam checked for safety, following a deadly incident on Saturday in which a long-tailed tourist boat collided with a bamboo transport boat.
The collision resulted in the death of the transport boat’s driver, Prakij Saisema, 69. The subsequent search for Prakij on the same day also resulted in one scuba diver, Chayut Thipchit, 21, going missing. A scuba-diving team yesterday continued their search for both Prakij and Chayut without success at the scene of the accident.
The inspections include drivers’ health after a police report finding that the driver of the tourist boat, Weerayuth Satthasuk, 24, was short-sighted and could not see the other boat properly.
