Deputy national police chief General Pongsapat Pongcharoen submitted the police case report to a public prosecutor yesterday to file eight charges against 37-year-old Jenpop Weeraporn.

The charges are: reckless driving resulting in death and property damage; driving while impaired; driving under the influence of substances resulting in death; unsafe driving with disregard for others; speeding; driving while under the influence of a psychotropic substance resulting in death; resisting a police alcohol test; and failing to obey a legal police order without justification.

Jenpop would not be charged with premeditated murder as relatives of the deceased urged because there was no evidence suggesting he intended to kill the two motorists, Pongsapat said. Relatives should file a lawsuit on that charge if they wish, he said.
