THE National Disaster Warning Centre yesterday alerted people in 36 provinces of the possibility of summer storms over the weekend, as a number of motor accidents were reported yesterday due to the wild weather.
In Chaiyaphum, a predawn hailstorm yesterday caused a sedan to crash on the Chaiyaphum-Si Khiew Road, resulting in two deaths and two injuries. In a separate accident, a pickup truck crashed amid a downpour in the province’s Muang district, leaving three people injured.
There was flooding on several roads in Muang district and many areas suffered blackouts, with officials vowing to have power resumed by last night.
Eighteen districts in Kalasin province were hit by heavy rain from 4am yesterday.
An 18-wheel truck transporting molasses overturned on a slippery road at 7am in the province’s Kuchinarai district, blocking the Kalasin-Mukdahan road for over two hours.
In Phichit’s Pho Prathap Chang district, the Red Cross Society and the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department brought relief items to aid storm-affected residents. It was reported that 103 homes, two temples and one school were damaged by storms in Phichit’s nine districts.
