MANY WOMEN have fallen prey to a handbag vendor who operates via Facebook and falsely promised to deliver luxury goods at a temptingly low price.
Pol Colonel Siriwat Pordee said police would investigate the complaint and gather evidence before summoning the suspect, who was named as Jettayarat Sappat.
Piyaporn Leelas, 36, said she met Jettayapat via a Facebook page where an auction for brand-name handbags was purportedly being held. The page had attracted more than 200,000 followers.
“She delivered two bags without any problem, but when I paid Bt55,000 for another bag that I bought directly from her, she failed to deliver,” Piyaporn said.
She added that upon learning that other customers had faced similar problems, they jointly confronted Jettayapat and brought her to a police station.
“But she bluntly said she cannot return the money and challenged us to have her arrested,” Piyaporn said.
She and several other victims submitted evidence including handbag photo and payment receipts to police yesterday.
A source said Jettayapat had been named as a suspect in other fraud cases, with victims filing complaints in Bangkok and also in Ubon Ratchathani province.
