Pol Captain Prathaung Saeng-araim of Cha-am Police Station led a team to inspect Bangkok Bank’s Cha-am branch in Phetchaburi province.

A bank officer told police that he had gone to work as usual and noticed that the vault door was open and about Bt10 million in cash had disappeared.

The computer controlling the security camera and alarm system were destroyed, he said.

Cha-am police reported that they had received an alarm call from the bank at 2.30am and rushed to the branch but found nothing amiss.

They received a phone call the following day, reporting the break-in the next day.

Attapol Samakrattakij, manager of Bangkok Bank’s Hua Hin branch, said all the Bt10 million kept in the vault was stolen.

The number of people involved in the break-in was unknown.

The sub-branch provides foreign exchange services and every day its money is transferred to the main branch, but the theft occurred during the long holiday.

In Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district, an unknown number of thieves failed to break into two ATMs installed at a three-storey commercial building.

The ATMs’ surveillance cameras were covered by black tape and their cash compartments showed signs of attempts to open them.

Police will check nearby closed-circuit TV cameras.
