EPSILON, a scratch team of top students from three leading universities, has snatched the first prize at the Singha English Challenge 2016, an English-language competition in Thailand, in Bangkok last week.

Singha Corporation, in association with the British Council of Thailand, gave Generation Y the chance to compete on their English competency.

The Epsilon students, comprising Patcharapol Promthat and Supissara Ruangpeerakul from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Economics, Sirada Sunthornchainukul from Thammasat University’s Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, and Cholpanit Akayamat from Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Arts left their rivals behind.

Apart from Bt450,000 worth of prizes, the winners will have access to valuable real life experiences with top professionals in tourism and mass media sectors.

The Empirical English team from Thammasat University’s Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy won the first runner-up and the White Elephant team from Maha Sarakam University’s Faculty of Education took the second runner-up spot.

Patcharapol said what he gained from this competition was knowledge from specialists. He said he was delighted his team had won the first prize. He attributed his team’s victory to hard work. He said selecting team members who are fluent in English was important. “Speaking is the most vital skill as we can help and share knowledge for other skills,” he said.

Sirada revealed how to master English. “I look at movies that have English soundtracks and learn English from song lyrics. Practice makes perfect,” he said.
