The chief defendant in the “tutorial-king” fraud case has jumped bail, not making a court appearance to hear the final ruling yesterday.

The Supreme Court has issued an arrest warrant for Pemika Weerachatraksit and imposed Bt1million fine on her guarantor.

Pemika, also known as Siwaporn and Sirirachasiri, and three other defendants were found guilty of fraud and attempted fraud by the lower courts.

Evidence revealed they had deceived “tutorial king” Prakitpao Thomchitchong, who was then |in a mentally weak state, into |giving Pemika assets worth Bt9.65million.

According to evidence, the defendants lured Prakitpao into believing he had attained, through meditation, a supernatural ability to recall 99 past lifetimes, in which he and Pemika were husband and wife.

The Court of Appeals sentenced Pemika to 54 months in jail. Three other defendants were given suspended jail terms. All four defendants were also ordered to return the cash amount of Bt8,395,387 to Prakitpao.

The verdict had been appealed, and the Supreme Court was initially scheduled to read the final ruling yesterday.

However, because Pemika and another defendant failed to show up, the verdict-reading session was rescheduled to take place on June 28.

According to Pemika’s guarantor, she is now living overseas.
