The Royal Thai Army has set up a committee to probe an incident in which a captain ordered a subordinate to run in hot weather, resulting to the subordinate’s death by heat stroke, a high-ranking Army source revealed on Thursday.
An initial investigation found that Corporal Panya Ngern-rian of the Surasri Camp in Kanchanaburi’s Muang district was ordered to make five rounds of running but became sick during the third round and was rushed to a military hospital.
His condition was so bad that he was referred to Phramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok where he was pronounced dead.
The source said that the committee would probe if this was a reckless action by the captain.
The source said all supervisors were saddened by what had happened and would provide remedial measures to the deceased man’s family.
An informed source reported that Panya’s relatives collected the body for a religious ritual at a temple in Kanchanaburi’s Sai Yok district.
