From this academic year, state employees will be able to get larger reimbursements from the government for their children’s education.

Adinan Pakbara, secretary-general of the Office of the Private Education Commission, said yesterday that the Comptroller-General’s Department (CGD) had approved the larger reimbursement quota. “This aims to ensure that the assistance granted reflects today’s real expenses,” he said.

According to estimates provided by the CGD, civil servants can be reimbursed up to Bt5,800 per child studying in a state-run kindergarten each year, which is up from Bt5,110. If their children study at a privately run kindergarten that does not get a state subsidy, they can be reimbursed Bt13,600 per child per year, up from Bt11,940.

The state allows civil servants to get reimbursements on the money spent on their children’s education until the bachelor’s degree level.

“For the bachelor’s degree, the reimbursement quota must be half the actual expenses and must not exceed Bt25,000 a year, up from Bt22,000,” Adinan said.
