Police identified the suspect Songyos Saeki from security camera footage from the scene and issued an arrest warrant for murder and taking a knife into a public place without permission.

Songyos was presented to the press along with the clothes he wore on Monday and a 30-centimetre knife following his arrest in Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in district earlier in the day.

Sanit said Songyos allegedly confessed to the crime of stabbing the victim 14 times in front of an elevator on the 27th floor of the AIA Building in Din Daeng.

He claimed he killed her on impulse because he was angry with her, Sanit said, adding that Songyos said he had dated the cleaner for about three months but she began to distance herself from him so he was afraid she would find another man.

Songyos said he had not known the woman was already married, according to police.

He allegedly showed up at her work place unannounced and the two argued, Sanit said.

A court yesterday issued a detention order for Songyos while police objected to bail, saying he was a flight risk given the severity of the crime.

Songyos was later transferred to Bangkok Remand Prison.
