DSI deputy director-general Songsak Raksaksakul took custody of Iran-national Sayed Ramin Paknejad, aka Alias Ramin, from Malaysian authorities at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The Iranian man, 45, was wanted by Thai authorities after he fled the country three years ago. He had been granted bail after being arrested in Chon Buri in August 2013. At that time, he was in possession of more than 1,000 fake passports of some 60 countries, police said.

This was the first extradition between Malaysia and Thailand.

After he fled Thailand for Malaysia in 2013, the man fought against moves to have him extradited to face prosecution in Thailand. He lost the case in April, when a Malaysian court ordered him extradited.

The suspect had been living in Thailand for over a decade as a businessman before fleeing in 2013.
