Pattani police chief Pol Maj General Thanongsak Wangsupa said the explosion took place at the entrance to Ban Sae Moh Moo 4. The deceased teacher, Arisi Mahama of Ban Sae Moh School, served as director of the fourth voting station in Tambon Tabing. Two wounded police were identified as Police Corporal Krissada Luangsanam and Police Lance Corporal Nawin Saengthongsuk. The ballot boxes were not damaged and were later transported to the Sai Buri District Office.

Thanongsak said the culprits used the opportunity to plant the bomb when the officers carried the ballot boxes to the district office via an inevitable and isolated route, then detonated it when the convoy passed.
