Thai students have snatched 50 prizes at the International Mathematics Contest (IMC) 2016 in Singapore, returning home this week with five gold, 10 silver and 20 bronze medals.
Thanisorn Auttawetchakul from Chulalongkorn University’s Demonstration Elementary School and Vorapas Meejitpaisarn from the Bangkok Christian College were named Grand Champions for having the highest scores.
The competition attracted contestants from more than 10 countries including India, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Iran, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
However, only students from Thailand, China, Taiwan and Vietnam got the highest scores and got ranked grand champions.
Phumithep Klungurai, head of Thai Talent Training and IMC Union’s secretarygeneral, said the Thai students came from the Thailand Mathematics Academic Camp.
IMC is organised by the International Mathematics Contest Union (IMC Union) – comprised of those who are passionate about making mathematics popular among youths across the world under the vision “Science has no Borders”.
The union aims to boost an interest in maths among young people and encourage them into sharing their knowledge and making new friends through these maths contests.
