A POLICE lieutenant colonel will face additional charges after his battered wife succumbed to injuries yesterday.
Pol Lt-Colonel Boonrueang Sararam, an investigator at the Muang Samut Sakhon Police Station, allegedly beat up his 51-year-old wife during a quarrel earlier this month. After spending several weeks in hospital, the victim passed away yesterday. Initially, Boonrueang was charged with physical assault causing serious injuries, but now that the injuries proved to be fatal, he looks set to face a more serious charge.
“He will face additional charges of abusing a person physically and emotionally to the point of causing death,” Provincial Police Region 7 deputy commissioner Pol Maj-General Sorasak Yenprem said yesterday. He added that Boonrueang would also face action for grave disciplinary offence.
National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda assured all sides that the case would be handled in strict compliance with law.
The victim’s mother, 78, said tearfully yesterday: “Please give my daughter justice.”
The elderly woman also promised to take care of her two grandchildren aged eight and 10.
According to the victim’s mother, Boonreuang had a record of domestic violence but the battering had never become this serious.
Pavena Hongsakul, who runs a foundation for women’s and children’s protection, said she would help seek compensation for the victim’s mother and grandchildren.
