THE ANTI-MONEY Laundering Office (AMLO) has frozen some assets of high-profile murder suspect Pol Lt-Colonel Banyin Tangpakorn, who allegedly embezzled hundreds of millions of baht from a now-dead friend via share manipulation. Imposed on August 10, the assets will be frozen for no more than 90 days.
Banyin – a former deputy commerce minister – is now facing several charges related to the death and share deals of late construction tycoon Chuwong Saetang.
Last year, Chuwong was found dead in Banyin’s car after the two finished a game of golf. Initially, it appeared as if the car had slammed into a tree, but emerging evidence pointed to possible foul play. Chuwong’s family later learned that Banyin and some accomplices had transferred hundreds of millions of baht worth of Chuwong’s shares. Investigators believe the share manipulation pointed to the fact that Banyin might have had a motivation to kill Chuwong.
