August 12 is Mother’s Day in Thailand.

The sixth suspect was identified as Seree Waemamu, who is accused of staging several previous attacks in the deep South.

However, despite widespread speculation about possible links between the Mother’s Day attacks and the insurgency in the deep South, Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul yesterday denied the connection.

“I believe the attacks outside the deep South are not related to any separatist movement or peace talks,” he said.

One of the six suspects, Abdulkorday Salae, who is accused of staging the bombing in Trang, which killed one person, has already been arrested while the other five remain at large.

Seree is accused of the unauthorised possession of weapons and an arson attack in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Srivara said police would seek arrest warrants for two more suspects on suspicion that they were involved in the attacks in Phang Nga and Krabi.
