A retrospective of Roger Vivier’s celebrated designs goes on display at the Emporium
HIGH-END mall The Emporium joins French luxury footwear and accessories brand Roger Vivier in celebrating eight decades of fashion by hosting the photo exhibition “Roger Vivier The Retrospective”.
Vivier, who has been described as the “Fragonard of the shoe”, is best known for his signature buckle as well as for designing the very first stiletto heel and these take centre stage in the exhibition. He designed the shoes for HM Queen Elizabeth II for her coronation and was a favourite with other royals including Princess Grace of Monaco and Princess Victoria of Sweden, both of whom wore his shoes for their official engagements as well as out of the limelight.
Vivier’s signature, the famous buckled shoes, have been the favoured footwear of several first ladies and world style icons, among them Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich.
The exhibition also features Vivier’s exclusive sketches and collages from the Archive Collection as well as the actual accessories used by global celebrities and Hollywood stars. They include Cate Blanchett’s Pilgrim Paon Clutch, which the actress carried at the Oscars ceremony n 2015 and her Maxi Boite de Nuit Clutch. Also on display are Olivia Wilde’s Boite de Nuit Cavier Clutch, Adriana Lima’s Night Crystal Pilgrim Clutch, Dakota Johnson’s Pilgrim Micro Bag and bags belonging to Ines de la Fressange, Jessica Biel and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Suwadee Puengboonpra and Orand Puipunthavong, of PP Group, which distributes Roger Vivier in Thailand, said that the exhibition took a full year to organise. Both hope it will serve as an inspiration to young Thai designers.
Many A-list fashonistas and celebrities turned out for the red carpet opening, among them Panchalee Penchart, ML Piyapas Bhirombhakdi, Monlatcha Sakulthai, Dan Hetrakul, Praedao Panichsamai, Intira Thanavisuth, Dr Puttipong Poomsuwan, Dr. Chongmard Lerssin, Duangporn Boonyachinda, Cerrut Thveechaiwattana, Benjawan and Cyrille . Buhrman, Akarat Vanarat and Jarujit and Pimlert Baiyoke.
