THE CRIMINAL COURT yesterday dismissed a charge against a red-shirt supporter accused of possessing bombs and ammunition linked to a deadly explosion at Saman Metta Mansion in Nonthaburi province in 2010, citing insufficient evidence.

Chiang Mai teacher Amporn “Kru Khaek” Jaikon, 56, was accused by prosecutors of illegal possession of improvised explosive bombs, a gun, and 129 bullets. Police investigators alleged in testimony that the haul was linked to a series of terror bomb attacks in Bangkok and the surrounding area.
The explosion at Saman Metta Mansion killed four and wounded 10.
In dismissing the case, the Criminal Court said there was insufficient evidence to prove Amporn had possessed the devices at the mansion.
She had been released on surety of Bt200,000 while the trial was ongoing, but was detained on another bomb-related charge. Her lawyer, Benjarat Meetien, plans to seek her bail release based on this verdict.
Benjarat said: “As the two cases were somewhat similar and related, the Criminal Court’s ruling is a proportionate argument for the bail release.”
After the court read the ruling, Amporn cried out with relief. Leaving the court, she said to the media: “I’m okay. No need to be worried [about me].”
