Michael Kors and DKNY are ready to tuck Bangkok in for a long winter of fun finery
AMERICAN FASHION houses DKNY and Michael Kors both have alluring autumn-winter lines in the shops at EmQuartier.
DKNY’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne have come up with the “What Lies Beneath” collection, seeking to fill in the blanks from last season’s “Missing Pieces” theme.
The look is further deconstructed and more of “what lies beneath” is exposed to reveal a sort of anti-heroine who’s never quite what she seems.
A body-skimming slip dress in soft satin – almost ankle-length and with lace at the hem – is covered with a shirtdress, sweater or combined jacket-and-skirt, so all you see beneath is the lace of the lining. There’s a black rose at play here, its feminine layers uncovered like petals falling from the blossom.
Other streetwear bears flowers – ripped, rotated, shattered and piled on collage-style – as well as wide shoulders, pinstripes and cropped tops. |Silk tees and bonded-denim jumpsuits bear cheeky and |brash messages like “Insert |logo here” or “Don’t knock |New York”.

There are glimpses of tattered subway posters, street art, bold graphics and kaleidoscopic patterns. The palette is dark, rich and seductive in black, deep red and olive, colouring lace, velvet, satin, lacquered nylon and sporty fabrics. Pinstripes are applied in unexpected ways so they actually seem to create more texture while boosting contrast.
Meanwhile, Michael Kors has opened its second store in the mall, filling 2,000 square feet with a luxe mix of women’s accessories from both Michael Kors and Michael. On offer are ready-to-wear, handbags, small leather goods, footwear, eyewear, fragrances, watches, and jewellery.

Kors wants his customers to look chic but cool any time of the day. Speckled tweed patterns, grommet-embellished bags, studs and statement coats in rich hues, from striking must-have moss green to brick and plum are there to make a seasonal statement.
The “City Bohemian” line marries 1970s cool to modern, uptown polish in textural furs and shearlings, diaphanous blouses and metallic jacquards. There’s an “elevated bohemian” sensibility in the sleek tailoring and urban monochromes.
Here the palette runs from black and navy to camel and charcoal, playing off lilac and forest green.
You can find transitional outerwear such as in leather jackets, fur-trimmed anoraks and crisp officer’s coats. Sailor-inspired shapes and flares give a contemporary take on suits and leather culottes blur the line between office and eveningwear. Off-shoulder separates and sheer finishes channel a seductive spirit.
The accessories include saddlebags, chunky heels and louche slip-on loafers with heritage appeal.
