Klong Ong Ang

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is planning to develop the historical Klong Ong Ang site as a tourism attraction, Deputy Bangkok Governor Jakkaphan Phiew-ngarm said yesterday.
The plan relies on the government’s approval to spend Bt325.4 million improving the landscape and overall environment of the 1.5-kilometre-long Klong Ong Ang to develop a tourism attraction and recreational location for the public.
He said the city planned to build a dam, improve all five bridges along the canal, build a walkway underneath the bridges, improve the drainage system, install a wastewater treatment system to clean the canal water, and restore surrounding houses and buildings in line with the Rattanakosin-era site conservation.
He said the project was expected to begin next year and be completed by the end of the year or early 2018.
