LOCAL administrative organisations received the most complaints for alleged corruption at 1,496, followed by the Interior Ministry at 219 and the Education Ministry at 218, permanent secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Jirachai Moontongroy has said.
The issues most complained about were: embezzlement of money or state property with 1,507 cases, rule breaking with 656 cases, procurement with 605 cases, bogus reimbursement for house rent with 39 cases, petrol corruption with 20
cases, and bogus reimbursement for medical treatment with 11 cases, he said.
Jirachai said that the office, which is authorised to follow through state agency corruption cases for civil, criminal and disciplinary punishments, is working on 2,838 cases of suspected current account deficits or graft by state officials, involving Bt11.38 billion in damages.
This includes 234 complaints about central state agencies, 640 about regional agencies, 1,496 about local administrative bodies and 468 about state enterprise and public organisations, he said.
Jirachai also said the office received 151 cases this year concerning current account deficits or corruption by state officials discovered by agencies or the Office of the Auditor General. Twenty-five cases came from central state agencies, 30 from regional state agencies, 61 local administrative bodies and 35 state enterprises, he said.
Twenty of the cases were resolved completely – 12 from the Transport Ministry, four from the Interior, two from the Science and Technology Ministry, one each from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the Public Health Ministry.
