Five Chinese nationals were arrested for stealing the personal details of 100 people to produce fake credit cards that caused damages worth Bt1 million in one day.
Tourist Police deputy commander Col Achayon Kraithong said yesterday that Bai Wei, 32, Zhang Chusheng, 49, and Xue Zhiwei, 39, were arrested on Thursday night in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 23, following a bank’s tip-off about foreigners fitting their description using fake cards to buy goods.
Police seized a magnetic stripe card reader/writer, three fake electronic cards, a computer notebook with card data-recording software.
Police later arrested Liu Yuming, 46, and Chen Jie, 48, and seized more evidence.
The investigation found that three cards, which had been repeatedly overwritten with other people’s information to buy goods, caused damages worth Bt1 million, Achayon said.
Police are searching for more accomplices.
A police source said the five entered Thailand on Wednesday and were nabbed for using fake cards carrying information of 100 people.
