Abhisit to focus on conflict resolution at reconciliation talks

DEMOCRAT PARTY leader Abhisit Vejjajiva plans to discuss the current political conflict and conflict resolution through peaceful means when his party meets the reconciliation preparation committee tomorrow.
The Democrat is among 70 parties that have been invited before the committee to share views and resolutions on 10 previously established critical issues to pave the way for future reconciliation.
The hearing of politicians’ opinions is scheduled to be wrapped up by April before being handed to the umbrella committee for reform, reconciliation, and national strategy, or Por Yor Por, for consideration.
Ten representatives of the Democrat Party have been selected to present the views of the party on the pre-set topics. Abhisit’s deputy leader, Nipit Intarasombat, was assigned to take care of the reconciliation issue, while the party’s chief lawyer was assigned to talk about the rule of law and justice system.
At the committee’s second sessions yesterday, Chart Pattana Party representatives met the hearing panel at the Defence Ministry. The party’s leader, Wannarat Channukul, led his team and its adviser Suwat Liptapanlop.
Details of the talks were not disclosed.
On the first day of meetings on Tuesday, the New Aspiration Party, the Commoner Party, and the Farmer Networks Party attended.
They suggested that the current ban on political gathering be lifted, there be more public participation in the opinion gathering process, no proposal on amnesty, and a quick return to democracy.Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, meanwhile, said a workshop on the new work approach by the Por Yor Por would be held to introduce it to heads of all bureaucratic offices of all ministries on March 2. They are expected to instruct the approach further down to their subordinates so that they can have clear understanding in the approach aimed to change their bureaucratic work style and keep up with the government’s.Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, meanwhile, urged people at an economic conference to cooperate with the government in bringing back the country’s stability and reconciliation. He said it should not be focused only reconciliation, but the work need to be done on both social and economic development as well. And they should help maintain the three pillars, the nation, the religion, and the mornachy, and that’s what he said “ true reconciliation”.
