Pol Lt-Colonel Theerawat Chansriphetch, deputy chief of Saensuk police in Chon Buri, said 50-year-old engineer Suthep Poshsomboon filed a complaint against the three teens, accusing them of assaulting him.

Theerawat said the three would be summoned for interrogation tomorrow and police would also summon the driver of the van the three were riding in to face charges as well.

Theerawat said the teenagers would face charges of assaulting another person and assaulting an official while he was carrying out his duty. The van driver will be charged with encouraging others to assault other people and with breaking traffic laws.

Suthep filed a complaint against the three teens after he went to meet investigators at the police station to be further interrogated over the murder charge.

Suthep faced the charge after he fired at Nawapol Pheungphai, 17, who allegedly opened the door of his car and tried to drag Suthep following a road rage incident on February 4.

Suthep and the teenagers quarrelled when their van blocked his car from leaving a parking spot at a market in Chon Buri. Their van blocked Suthep’s car and the youths were seen by a camera attached to Suthep’s car rushing out to surround the vehicle.

Suthep went to see police yesterday with his wife and lawyer at 10.30am. Suthep was driven by Pol Sub-Lieutenant Airayawat Haengthip, who has been assigned to protect him.

Suthep told police he was hit and suffered a face injury. Police sent him for a medical check-up at the Burapha University hospital to check the wound on his face.

Police said they had interrogated 12 people so far in connection with the murder charge against Suthep.

The Saensuk police chief said authorities would be fair to both sides.
