Veteran journalist Yuwadee Tunyasiri remained unconscious on Saturday after being admitted to hospital on Friday following gastrointestinal bleeding.
Yuwadee, who is in her early 70s, has been in the intensive care unit of Phramongkutklao Hospital, where she is being sustained with vasopressors. According to her doctor, Yuwadee’s brain faced severe oxygen depletion hence she has been given defibrillation.
A journalist for four decades, the respected reporter covered the Government House beat until recently. Yuwadee is known to be outspoken in her dealings with authorities. In 2005, she spoke up over the alleged sexual harassment of a young female journalist by a high-ranking officer. She also got into numerous arguments with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Yuwadee retired from the Bangkok Post but continued to visit Government House every day until last November when authorities started enforcing a rule prohibiting reporters without affiliation from entering the compound.
