The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a lower court verdict sentencing red-shirt leader Yotwarit Chuklom, or Jeng Dokjik, to two years in prison without suspension for a lese majeste violation.
His political speech at a demonstration in March 2010 near Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge in front of large crowd had been ruled as being against the Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda.
The Supreme Court said on Tuesday the action hurt the sentiment of members of the public loyal to the revered institution. The lower court had already shown compassion by reducing Jeng’s sentence from three years to two years as the suspect had admitted the crime, the Supreme Court said.
Neither Jeng nor his lawyer made any statement afterwards and Jeng was immediately taken to prison by officials when the verdict was delivered.
