Sorawan Sirisuntarin, better known as “Auntie Cheng”, turned herself in to face questioning at the Region 1 Border Patrol police bureau in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district on Thursday.
The woman in her late 70s was summoned to provide information about her reported permission for monks and supporters of Dhammakaya Temple to use the space in the Klong Luang Central Market to stage protests.
Previously Sorawan was at the centre of a controversy over the bio-fermented tonic Nam Maha Bambat, or “Super Cure”, and the eye-drop product Jiaranai Petch, or “Cut Diamond”, which she manufactured and promoted via her cable TV channel “Super Cheng” in 2010.
She was released on a royal pardon in April 2015 after serving time behind bars for selling unregistered medicinal eye drops that caused a customer’s loss of eyesight.
