A Democrat politician claims the Pheu Thai Party is trying to discredit the government after the party’s former coalition leader called for the dissolution of the reconciliation committees.
Sathit Pitutecha, deputy leader of the Democrat Party, said Pheu Thai’s call for the scrapping of the committees and the setting up of a new independent panel was an attempt to undermine the government’s credibility.
Given Pheu Thai had participated in the reconciliation process, its petition could not be justifiable, Sathit said.
He added that Pheu Thai should not have joined the reconciliation talks if it did not trust the process.
The democrat deputy leader said the government had to be patient and explain to the public that the reconciliation talks aimed to contribute to peace and order after the general election was held.
He said he had participated in the reconciliation talks and the government seemed sincere in this latest attempt to bring about national harmony.
However Sathit warned that if that were not the case the government would face negative consequences.
He disagrees with the idea of having all parties sign a related agreement, saying it would be meaningless if it did not work.
