The public can ride for free ride on the new BTS Green Line between Bearing and Samrong Stations for a month, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday presides over the commercial launch of the one-kilometer-long extension.
The new Samrong station is one of nine stations under the BTS Green Line’s 13-kilometer-long Baring-Samut Prakan extension. The remaining eight stations are expected to be in operation next year.
The other stations include Phuchao Samingprai, Erawan Museum, Royal Thai Naval Academy, Samut Prakan, Sri Nakarin, Praeksa, Sai Luad and Samut Prakan Housing State.
The information obtained during the free trial will be used by the Bangkok Administrative Organization to determine the appropriate fares. About 40,000-50, 000 commuters are expected to pass through the new section per day. The number is expected to rise to 100,000 a day when all nine stations are open
