Police have pledged to take legal action against both the Uber driver and the drivers of red songtaew passenger vehicles in Chiang Mai who allegedly blocked and intimidated the former.
Chiang Mai police have been investigating an incident when angry songtaew drivers appeared to block the Uber taxi after a video clip of the incident went viral.
The clip showed the songtaew drivers appearing to block a private car on Saturday afternoon at a Chiang Mai bus terminal.
Chiang Mai deputy police chief Pol Colonel Piyaphan Pattarasin said police had determined that the Uber car belonged to Chuchart Kraima.
Piyaphan said police had also learned the identities of the songtaew drivers who had intimidated Chuchart, adding that they would be summoned to meet police soon.
Piyaphan said Chuchart would be charged with driving an unregistered passenger car and the songtaew drivers would be charged with intimidating another person.
He added that public-transport drivers should inform police about private cars being used illegally as taxis instead of resorting to force.
