The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) successfully prevented a boat carrying three stolen luxury cars from leaving a port at the Bangkok Free Trade Zone on Tuesday.
The supercars were reported to have been stolen from Britain.
DSI deputy chief Korrawat Panprapakorn led a team to the zone on Tuesday morning after receiving a tip-off that stolen cars were being loaded onto a boat for export.
When the team reached the port at noon, the boat had just departed but was ordered to return.
The three luxury vehicles were on the list of vehicles that had been stolen from Britain and sent to Thailand, according to Britain’s National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS).
A source said the move to export the luxury vehicles from Thailand indicated that some customs officials might have colluded with wrongdoers.
“The move took place after the Customs Department had already found the stolen vehicles in the free trade zone,” it said.
