The Election Commission-appointed political party development for reform committee on Tuesday agreed that a new college should be set up to “educate” politicians on how to develop their parties with “knowledge and conscience”, so that they can keep pace with the country’s reforms.
Anek Laothammatas, who chairs the panel, said the college would also work with the people to boost their understanding and roles in politics, so that they can be good political supporters and monitor how the charter is being implemented in their best interests.
Anek said that some political parties he had talked with had expressed their concern in regard to the new political party law, which they viewed as being too strict and insufficiently flexible.
Some of the rules should be made more flexible, including those concerning the collection of party membership fees, which should be subject to each party member’s own will, rather than fixing a set rate as proposed in the bill, he suggested.
